OmniOutliner 2 App Reviews

Probably worth the money

Revised review: Ommi requires use of their proprietary sync mechanism. It is buggy. Ive gotten very tired of sorting through different versions of the same outline, trying to figure out the differences. Why not Dropbox? Tip: to use omnioutliner as a regular outlining app, create an OPML document on your desktop, use omnisync to sync it with the app, and then duplicate it whenever you want to make a new outline. You wont have access to any of the fancy formatting options--they wont be preserved in OPML--but you will be able to use this apps fine interface while keeping your data out of Omnis proprietary format.

Why text expander?

Why does every developer feel the need to add text expander to their app? Seems pointless, given its already a function of the native apple keyboard, modifiable in settings. Syncs across icloud to. Honestly, I regret the $30 I spent on the desktop version of text expander. Much more interested in seeing an iPhone/iPod app from omni for this app. Also think it would be awesome if omni offered a subscription option for their apps, like todoist does. All platforms, one price, 1 year of service. Instead of buying new iterations on every single platform every other year... Nudge nudge wink wink

great outliner.

pretty expensive but worth it.

Watch out!

This vendor practices the now all too frequent "buy this high priced version now, and in N months Im going to remove it from the App Store and replace it with blah v2, with a few cosmetic differences, and have you sucker pay for the new version in full, as opposed to pay for an upgrade." Happened with Omni outliner, and now with Omnigraffle.

Great functionality

I use omnioutliner to creat checklists for projects and meeting agendas. Its a very dependable and versatile tool. The updates are excellent.

Good, but why no bullets?

Update: great functionality, still no bullets I like everything about this except for the customization. Why are there no bullet options? For the price. I need that. Also the opml export to scrivener didnt work.

Great addition to my productive habits

Such power in this app! And they said you cant do real work on an iPad, psh. But I would love to be able to open .csv files in this app and have them formatted in spare columns. Thanks!

Great Outliner - simply the best

Two wishes: 1. I wished this worked on the iPhone. Im disappointed that it doesnt particularly with the iPhone 6 Plus. 2. I wish it could export easily to DropBox or Evernote. For my iPhone 6 Plus, I am using the app named "Outliner" instead. It works really well. It directly exports to OPML files that can be imported and exported to OmniOutliner for the Mac. So it is totally compatible with OmniOutliner for the Mac for outlines without the fancy formatting. It goes to show that OmniOutliner can be modified to work on an iPhone. So it is disappointing that I have to use some other app instead of OmniOutliner on the iPhone. For this reason, I knock the rating down to 3 stars. The primary reason is that with the iPhone 6 Plus, I hardly use my iPad.

iPhone 6 Plus

Where is the app? Come on, this iPad app should have been iPad/ iPhone compatible. Connectivity and usability are important. For the price, Omni should outsource for the engineering expertise. Instead of "5 Stars", OmniOutliner 2 gets “2 Stars”.

Amazing Product

Particularly when paired with OmniPresence, this is my go-to note and list collection tool on iOS and OS X. Now that its available on iPhone too, its even more powerful.

Expensive

Great app and very powerful, but I cant say the price is justified--especially if you include the cost of the Mac version.

Well worth it.

New version looks great, is more functional, and works on the iPhone ;-)

Awesome.

I’m tremendously relieved to see OmniOutliner 2’s finally available for iPhone. While having an outliner on my phone is optional for nearly everything, it’s tremendously handy for preparing for travel. I want something that runs on something that fits in my hand, supports OPML import and export (I’ve changed smartphone platforms too often to think of this as optional), and syncs between a desktop or a tablet. So far, only one other app out there does this that I’ve found, and OmniOutliner 2 surpasses it easily for flexibility, feature completeness, comfortable UI design, and, well… it’s just nicer looking, too. There’s a lot to be said for being able to tweak the look of an outline so it’s easier on the eyes, I gotta say.

Omni Love

Omni outliner has always been the place where I keep all of my reference material in my workflow. I use my iPhone about 75% of the time while working. This is been a major issue since I have not had my reference material on hand at all times. Omni outliner for the iPhone has changed everything for me. To top it off it is a beautifully written application. Thank you Omnigroup. People… just buy this app.

Mavericks Users beware! Sync Requires Yosemite

App only crashes and locks up occasionally. If you are expecting a seamless way to use OmniOutliner with your mac running mavericks, lower your expectations. Omnipresence sync requires 10.10 and does NOT work with Mavericks. This wouldnt be a problem if Omnigroup supported something like dropbox, but you MUST use either Omnipresence or WebDAV to sync with all OmniGroup apps.

Great outliner

Didnt expect OO to be on the iPhone. So far so good. Images scale down well, omni sync works, works with the Mac, great interface. What more does one expect?

Learning curve too steep

I feel like a fool spending this much on an app I cant use. Too complicated, too proprietary, too hard to sync. Be prepared to work hard to get any value here.

Exceptional. Worth the cost.

This has been one of my go-to iOS apps and Mac programs for years. It keeps evolving and getting better. Now it works on my iPhone. Simply fantastic.

Now on iPhone!

Ive sung OmniOutliners praises for years and have found it indispensable on my Macs and iPad. After years of waiting, not only did Outliner finally make it to the iPhone, but it was a free, universal binary upgrade! You guys rock!

Triple Threat! iPhone is a great addition

I have long used Omni outliner on iPad and Apple computers for full speech and article preparation. Now that I can see my drafts and make changes on iPhone when needed, I will not use any other app to continue my writing life! If you merely want a to-do or shopping list, do not buy Omni outliner. This is a fully functional, collapsible, writing and analysis program with font support, columns support, ability to import files, ability to sync with cloud storage, and a replacement for Scrivener, Word, Pages, and for basic database programs (Useful for basic statistical math problems – not for complex math analysis.).
